The 28th Annual Gandhi Walk has been scheduled to take place on Sunday 19th May 2013, at the Gandhi Hall, Impala Crescent ,Ext.5, Lenasia.
Being the month of Autumn the distance of the walk as well as the times of commencement has been shortened. The 15 km walk has been reduced to 10 km and the 7 km to 5 km in order to encourage more participants to partake in a less strenuous, manageable and enjoyable walk.
The 10 km walk will start at 9.00 am and the 5 km walk will begin at 9.15 am.
We anticipate walkers in excess of 4,000 to participate in the walks, and about 8,000 people are expected to spend their day with us.
Tickets are priced at R20.00 each and can be purchased at Computicket or one can enter online, tickets will also be available for purchase on the day of the walk.
Trophies will be presented to winners in various categories –free tee shirts will be given to the first 3000 walkers to finish the walk.
Many dignitaries including the Mayor, the High Commissioner of India, deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Miss S.A, Miss Earth S.A amongst others will be attending.
A variety of delicious vegetarian food will be sold at the food stalls at a reasonable cost. It is our request that members of the community close their kitchens and enjoy lunch with their families at the Gandhi Walk.
A free Fusion Mela show will take place after lunch- Dance items will be performed by students of renowned dancing schools and well known singers will entertain all with some dazzling songs .
Raffle tickets at R5.00 each will be sold throughout the day – the raffle draw will take place at 4.00 pm.
Free tests for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar will be administered by Lenmed Clinic and MAP (Muslim Aids Program) will be in attendance and offering their services.
A KIDS ZONE which will include face painting, jumping castles etc will be arranged to keep the children entertained.
