Johannesburg: Native Chileans living in SA under the Association of Chilean residents in South Africa (ASHISA) are celebrating their cultural heritage and raising funds for the survivors of the earthquake in their home country of Chile. Together with the Embassy of Chile in SA the fun raising event will be held on Saturday the 10th of April at Canto Latino Tapas Bar, Rivonia Square Mall, featuring Latin DJ´s, special guests and an array of Chilean food and wine. The South American country of Chile was struck by one of the largest earthquakes in modern history at the end of February 2010 registering 8.8 on the Richter scale and causing a Tsunami. Many villages along some of the country’s coastal provinces were destroyed, over 800 people lost their lives in this tragedy, over 2 million people have been left homeless and many historical buildings were damaged. The R100 entrance fees to this exciting cultural experience includes a glass of sparkling wine, sangria or sherry will be donated with a percentage of the R175 Latin food buffet also donated to the fund. TJ’s Acoustic Music Club is a group of amateur and professional musicians who present three shows each month at Mark’s Park, Emmarentia in Johannesburg. Two of the Thursday shows are organised, the last Thursday of the month, is an Open Mike Nite. On Thursday 6 May, a ‘50s Revival Special will feature the songs of Niel Sedaka, The Platters, Elvis Presley and more. Musicians do not get paid but we do need to pay for the venue and therefore charge a nominal entry fee of R20.00/person.
